Dear World Budo Kan Association Inc Members,
As members will have been aware the AGM of the WBKA was held on the evening of the 29th August 2017
We would like to congratulate Tony Ricketts Sensei from Hikari Dojo on being elected by the members present as the new WBKA President.

Outgoing President Carl Withey Sensei has decided to step down after some 5 years at the helm.
Withey Sensei said “It has been my privilege to be the co-founder of the WBKA Inc., on behalf of Tony Smith Sensei (RIP). I have decided to stand down two years earlier due to the strain on my time with my work demands increasing, my club numbers growing as well as increase in demands on my family and health. My family time has been hugely impacted in the last year and needs to be resolved. I have had several bad injuries in the last two years and they have taken their toll on me. So I need some time to recharge my batteries. My stepping down will make way for a new face of the organisation and along with new committee members will bring new ideas for the benefit of the members and drive the Association forward on an increased professional level”.
Withey Sensei founded the WBKA Inc. in conjunction with his former sensei and with his two son’s James Withey, and Luke Withey, and good friend Jason Peak Shihan (RIP). All were founding members along with his wife Ruth Withey and Craig Andrews Sensei. Since the start, the WBKA has grown to include clubs in the UK, Central Africa, Poland and connections/links in USA, but the base has been South Australia. Withey Sensei went on to say “WBKA Inc. is great shape to move forward to grow and become something special in martial arts, not just here in Australia, but overseas”.

Withey Sensei stated that he “firmly believes that the WBKA will be in very good professional hands in the coming years with Tony Ricketts as President and a hard working, brilliantly talented committee supporting him, building on the strong foundations we have laid. We are a young and unique organisation which exists for the benefit of the membership not the individual”.
Withey Sensei’s last duties will finish on the 28th October at the completion of the International Event & Gala Dinner. Ricketts Sensei will be transitioning as of today into the role of WBKA Inc. President.
Also elected to the Executive Committee is Jamie Barnett Sensei.

Tony Ricketts Sensei commented “The Committee and the membership would like to extend its gratitude to Carl Withey Sensei and his family for the fantastic effort, both in time and money, in establishing the WBKA. As an organisation we exist to promote Traditional Martial Arts, train our members and Instructors and raise money for charities. Regardless of the external Martial Arts and Dojo politics we exist solely to benefit the members. I look forward to continuing these ideals, breaking down barriers, promote the Martial Arts and continue to grow the membership.”
